Getting to Katong V by MRT and Bus

Katong V is not located directly beside an MRT station. Therefore, it’s common for commuters to use the MRT to access a nearby station and then transfer to a bus to get to the mall.

The section below will outline how to access the most convenient station relative to Katong V and then exactly how to connect with bus services to the mall.

Step 1: Walk to the closest MRT station.

The first step in getting to Katong V in Singapore is walking to the nearest station. And by walking, we are assuming that you are staying close to a station in the city.

Singapore has several metro lines and tons of hotels within direct walking distance to strategic stations.

A few of the most popular hotels in the city are:

The Fullerton Bay Hotel (3 minutes away from Raffles Place Station)

Marina Bay Sands (2 minutes away from Bayfront Station)

Once you know where you are staying in the city, skip down to step #2 below to plan your route.

Step 2: Map out your trip to Katong V (stations, lines and transfers).

Getting to Katong V is super easy if you know which stations are the best for connecting to bus services.

There are three main stations that we recommend using for getting to Katong V:

Mountbatten Station (CC7)

Dakota Station (CC8)

Paya Lebar Station (EW8/CC9)

As you can see based on the codes above, Mountbatten, Dakota and Paya Lebar Station are all located along the Circle Line (CC).

Paya Lebar Station is an interchange station for the East-West Line (EW) and the Circle Line, and it’s a popular spot for commuters to transfer between forms of public transportation.

You can take the bus from any of these stations to Katong V. Bus services are available from each one, and the travel time only differs by a few minutes. Therefore, try to get off at the first one you arrive at via the MRT.

Step 3: Buy your MRT ticket to reach Mountbatten, Dakota, or Paya Lebar Station.

You can choose from two main types of MRT tickets in Singapore.

Here are the two main classifications:

  1. Tourist Passes
  2. Stored Value Cards

Singapore Tourist Passes are the top choice for international visitors who want to use public transportation while in the city. You can get unlimited bus and train rides with these (for a set number of days (usually 1-3)).

Stored value cards are very popular amongst Singaporeans, permanent residents and many tourists. We used one when we discovered how to get to Katong V by MRT and bus for the first time.

MONEY-SAVING TIP: Try to buy a MULTI-ATTRACTION PASS like the Klook Pass to save up to 52% on entrance fees to Singapore’s top attractions. All you need to do is buy several passes online in advance to get the discounts. Already, over 200,000 of these passes have been sold to Singaporeans and visitors to the city.

Step 4: Complete any necessary transfers to the Circle Line or the East-West Line to access the best station.

You might have to transfer lines to reach Mountbatten, Dakota, or Paya Lebar Station, depending on your starting point.

Fortunately, there are several MRT lines in place with lots of interchange stations. You can refer to metro maps either in stations or on the trains to see where the most practical station is to transfer.

Remember, you can access buses to Katong V by heading to a station along the Circle or East-West Line.
