Step 1: Find a room beside an MRT Station.
If you are a resident of Singapore or you have already booked a room then you can skip down to step number two. If you have not booked the room yet then this is important.
We strongly recommend booking a room in Singapore that is within walking distance of an MRT station. This is really important because it sets the stage for a very efficient and affordable trip to Singapore. Fortunately, there are a lot of hotels that have been built within only one or two minutes from many MRT stations throughout the city.

Similarly, staying near the MRT ensures that you can take the MRT from Changi Airport to your hotel. This immediately can save you $20 or $30 (or much more) by avoiding a taxi or private vehicle from the airport.
Singapore’s MRT system is surprisingly cheap to use as well. Therefore, you can get around too many different attractions without spending a fortune. You do not want to walk far distances in Singapore’s extreme afternoon heat. Staying close to a station allows you to still go places without getting sunburnt throughout the day.
There are tons of hotels throughout Singapore that you can choose from that are conveniently located near stations. We have included two examples below that are quite popular with guests.
Marina Bay Sands (5-star) (Bayfront Station)

Currently, there are three different types of ticketing options that you can choose from. The first one is called a single journey ticket. These tend to work well for visitors that are only going to use the MRT once or twice while they are in the city.
The second option is getting a Singapore Tourist Pass. These are ideal if you plan on doing a lot of sightseeing over a short period of time. For example, if you are in Singapore for only 3 days or less and want to check out a lot of different things you might want to consider buying one of these. You can refer to the link above for more information about tourist passes.
The third and very popular option is getting a stored-value card. These are very popular with long-term guests to the city and also Singaporeans. Once you purchase a card and all you need to do is top it up with cash and then you can simply tap to enter and exit each station. when we were first figuring out how to get to 313@Somerset by MRT we used an EZlink Card.
